The Living Room Privacy Dilemma

The concept of an automated reaction camera is inherently intimate. The phone sits on a coffee table or nightstand, facing you, your partner, your children, or your friends in your private living space for hours at a time.

In an era where many consumer camera apps stream video streams to remote cloud servers for computer vision inference, this model is fundamentally unacceptable for home entertainment. Cloud-based video processing introduces severe attack surfaces:

The Solution: 100% Edge Processing

Fesi was architected from the first line of code on a strict foundation: local-only edge intelligence. No video frame, audio sample, or metadata packet ever touches an external network socket.

Architecture Feature Fesi (Local Edge AI) Typical Cloud Camera App
Video Processing Location 100% On-Device (Neural Engine) Remote AWS / GCP Cloud Servers
Account / Login Required None (Instant Use) Mandatory Email / Social Login
Unreacted Footage Storage Volatile RAM only (Purged in ms) Uploaded or cached to disk
Internet Connection Needed Works 100% Offline (Airplane Mode) Fails without active Wi-Fi
Detection Latency < 16 milliseconds (Real-time 60fps) 250ms - 800ms (Network delay)
Local Biometric Vault ✔ Hardware Face ID / Passcode ❌ Basic app password

How On-Device Vision Works Under the Hood

1. Apple Vision Framework & Neural Engine (iOS)

On iOS, Fesi taps directly into Apple's native Vision and AVFoundation subsystems:

2. MediaPipe Face Mesh (Android)

On Android devices, Fesi executes a customized, highly quantized MediaPipe face mesh pipeline optimized for mobile GPUs and NPUs, ensuring smooth 60fps tracking across flagship and mid-range devices.

The Circular RAM Buffer Architecture

One of the most frequent technical questions we receive is: "If Fesi captures the 2 seconds before I react, isn't it recording me constantly?"

The answer lies in how volatile system memory operates versus permanent disk storage:

🧠 Volatile Memory vs. Flash Storage

Fesi allocates a fixed ring buffer inside your device's active RAM. Incoming video frames flow into this ring buffer like water through a small fountain. After 2 seconds, old frames are immediately overwritten by new frames. At no point is this video written to physical NAND flash storage. It only exists in ephemeral memory transistors.

Only when the combined vision-acoustic trigger threshold is breached does the system write the buffered frames and the active reaction into a container file stored in your local sandbox.

Local Vault & Biometric Security

Your saved reaction clips are stored inside your phone's secure application container. To prevent friends or colleagues who might borrow your phone from browsing your private reaction clips, Fesi includes hardware-backed Biometric Privacy Lock:

Conclusion: Privacy as a Fundamental Right

Technology should enhance your life without monitoring it. By pairing cutting-edge mobile machine learning with zero-cloud architecture, Fesi proves that you don't have to surrender your home privacy to capture genuine, joyful memories.
